Paul Sullivan: Mr. Sullivan will discuss the claim process, the Gulf War (26 years of war), and VA's current claim backlog and appeal backlog.
Paul Sullivan is the Director of Veteran Outreach at the national law firm Bergmann & Moore in Bethesda. The firm focuses only on Veterans disability compensation and pension claim appeals before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Until the end of 2016, Paul served as the deputy secretary of communications at the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet).
Paul has more than 25 years of experience advocating for Veterans. In his role at Bergmann & Moore, Paul leads our outreach to Veterans and families. Previously, he was executive director at Veterans for Common Sense, a project manager at VA central office, and executive director at the National Gulf War Resource Center. Paul previously worked at Bergmann & Moore from 2012 to 2014 in a similar outreach position. He has testified more than 20 times before the U.S. Congress on issues related to Veteran healthcare and disability benefits. He frequently appears in media interviews, from 60 Minutes to the New York Times, and he appears in the film, “Thank You for Your Service.
Paul served as a cavalry scout in Army's 1st Armored Division during the Gulf War ground invasion of Iraq and Kuwait during February 1991. He earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of West Georgia and a graduate certificate in government project management from George Washington University.
