Tonight, Lawrence and I will host Marcel Reid, co-founder of the Whistleblowers Summit.
Our converstion will focus on the success of the Summit and the Whistleblowers New Film Festival that took place for the first time August 1, 2019. Marcel worked for three years to implement the film festival and finally saw it come to life in 2019. Her efforts paid off. The film festival took first prize in FormFest's annual awards for "best of fest"
We will also discuss the current environment for whistleblowers as a result of the impeachemnt hearings. Not that Whistlblowers have ever had an easy time, but the current atmosphere in D.C. is so toxic, that things have become much worse for them. Recently, congress refused to intervene on behalf of whistleblowers who were facing retaliation as a result of vacancies on the MSPB board. MSPB has not had any presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed members since February. What does this mean for Whistleblowers? According to Tom Devine:
“Whistleblowers are at the mercy of partisan gridlock,” Devine said, adding lawmakers often “praise whistleblowers to their face but then stab them in the back.”
