HOW ARE YOU DOING LIFE? The young people say, Life Be Lifing". I recently read an article that said if you don't make time for your wellness, you will make time for your illness. These words stood out in my mind as a great conversation over coffee. We know how important a doctor's appointment can be, but what about the walks in the park and time with the grandkids? Trending right now is the conversation that seniors who spend time with their grandkids live 37% longer. I'm also reading a book my sister gave me, 'Doing Life: Reflections of men and women serving life sentences '. This book, while not directly about wellness, is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental, physical, and emotional fitness in 'doing life'-a term used to describe the act of living fully and purposefully. It may seem like I'm all over the place with my thoughts, but I'm not. The conclusion of my thoughts ends here. How are you doing life? The book is a compilation of stories of men and women who are doing life without the possibility of parole. While that is another conversation in and of itself, the point is that to endure a life sentence or commitment, you must be mentally, physically, and emotionally fit. For everyone, regardless of where you spend your days, if you are unwilling to make time for your mental, physical, financial, and emotional wellness, your illness, metaphorically or realistically, will dictate the time you spend doing life.
