"In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner."
-that quote comes from the Stanford library-
My wife and I have been having fun and earning some income recording audio programs together for 10 years. 10 years.
10 years.
So Tom MacDonald And Ben Shapiro took memes and talking points and turned them into something resembling a song.
We have had copywritten music on for discussion, review and just to clown on it sporadically throughout the decade.
We've done this with Battle Emcees, Crip Hoppers, Mumble Rappers, Thug Rap, reality TV Rappers and even Trap Rap.  It's always gone smoothly.
When recording, I make a double of the audio. I have one recording going straight to blogtalk radio and one recording directly in my home computer.  The home computer recording is always used to replace the blogtalk recording and go out as the official audio.  (for 10 years).
It's good to have that rough blogtalk recording so if we have hiccups in the home recording, we can patch them in editing.
This was one of those times that we had a pretty BIG hiccup. When I pulled the blogtalk audio to start patching it up, I noticed something.
The Canadian with inexplicably damp struggle braids put so much preemptive protection on his music that blogtalk automatically muted all the parts when I played a clip of his record. I first wondered if this was because the production company was based in Canada and maybe different laws but we've covered artists with production companies out of Canada, Australia and the UK.
