Denver’s original main street, Larimer Square was home to the city's first city hall, post office, bank, bookstore, photography studio, dry goods store,theater, and speakeasy. The historic square was Threatened for demolition in the 1960s, it become Denver's first historic district in 1971 and was listed on the National Historic Registry in 1973.
