Listen to this special edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. The program includes our regular PANW report with dispatches on the recently-held local governmental elections in the Republic of South Africa; the government in Zimbabwe has cracked down on leaders of the National Liberation War Veterans Association after the release of a document criticizing the leader of the ruling ZANU-PF party President Robert Mugabe; fighting is continuing in the Somalia capital of Mogadishu where Al-Shabaab has launched attacked aimed at weakening the western-backed Federal government; and in Egypt the military says it has killed a number of armed opponents of Cairo in the Sinai region bordering occupied Palestine. We will continue the acknowledgement of the annual Black August commemorations honoring the legacy of resistance by African people in the United States and the world. Finally we look at another historic August rebellion which began in Haiti in 1791 leading to the triumph of the Revolution in 1804.
