In the second hour we continue our monthlong commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense by listening to a rare archival recording of Stokely Carmichael, later known as Kwame Ture, delivering a major address at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) on May 24, 1967. Carmichael discussed Black Power, Civil Rights, urban rebellions, coalitions with whites, violence and nonviolence, and the United States imperialist war against Vietnam, among other issues of the day.
