Listen to the Sat. May 16, 2020 edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. The program features our regular PANW report with dispatches on the efforts by the government of South Africa to contain the spread of COVID-19 inside the country; Zimbabwe has mobilized the resources of the state to engage in testing and other measures to address the pandemic; the Malawi electoral commission has set a date for the rerun of a disputed election; and the Union of Comoros administration has imported medical supplies from Madagascar. In the second hour we listen to a briefing from the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus discussing COVID-19 mitigation efforts in Latin America and other issues. We then rebroadcast an address by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the phased lifting of a lockdown imposed in response to the pandemic. Finally, the South African province of Limpopo has seen an outbreak of COVID-19 among mineworkers.
