Excerpts from Southcoast Today posted in April 2018 regarding my Phenomenal Guest, Chops Turner. He is one of the city’s most accomplished entertainers, a singer who has built a career that enables him to live the dream of many musicians – living solely off of his craft. For 40 years his 57 years, Chops Turner has been able to leave the 9-to-5 working world behind and support himself strictly by performing. And he does a lot of performing – on average he will be singing six or more times a week, with a variety of bands in a variety of venues.

Turner’s talents have earned him opportunities to perform at the esteemed Apollo Theatre, he has given a rendition of the National Anthem at Fenway Park, and sung at the inauguration of Governor Deval Patrick. He has sung on cruise ships, in nightclubs and casinos. While he regularly performs in Providence and Boston, he has also found himself on stages in New York City, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.

The West End vocalist has built a catalog of more than 2,000 songs in genres ranging from swing jazz to contemporary Hip Hop. He may also sing some of his own material, depending on the situation. But Turner claims that there is one factor as important as talent that accounts for his longevity – diversity.  “I’m a crooner,” he says. “I want to have a good stage presence and keep people engaged, but ultimately I want to show my vocal skills. I want audiences to be listening to me.”
