Fairytales are timeless. It doesn't matter how long ago it was written they are woven through human history. They comfort us with happily ever after, frighten us with monsters and evildoers, and sustain us with adventure. Most of them we know by heart. We only have to say one character or an element and we know exactly what it means or it refers to. We like the tradition that comes with fairy tales, knowing that no matter what happens, happily ever after is right around the corner.
A common theme going on with a lot of writers is recreating fairytales. One of the more popular ones is the Lunar Chronicles which is a sci-fi fantasy space opera retelling of Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. And the movie Snow White and the Huntsman, Tangled, and others try to recreate traditional fairytales but oftentimes, it can be too repititous, too predictable, or so off the wall that it falls flat. Join me as I talked with J M Butler, author as we talk about how to recreate our beloved fairytales with an edge, and smart. You can call in at 646-668-8485, press 1 to be live on air.
