Muslim children are taken to the masjid (mosque) and given “a way of life” according to what their Muslim parents taught. The parents joined the Nation of Islam under the Hon. Elijah Muhammad or with the leadership of Imam W. Deen Mohammed; therefore, they became conscious of Al-Islam and its tenets under circumstances quite different from how their children became aware of Islam. The parents converted to Al-Islam with the intent on finding something better; whereas, the children did not. Are the motivating factors that drive the parents love for Al-Islam “transferable” to their Muslim children?
As Muslim children grow older and engaged the influences of the world naturally they questioned many things – trying to make sense of this thing called “LIFE”. Even with some youth not always maintaining reputable Islamic standards of the faith; nonetheless, they still love Al-Islam.
We applaud those born-Muslims who still identify with and practice Al-Islam as they are now pursuing their adult lives and often raising their new families as Muslims.
Join us as we discuss these dynamics of generational concerns that affect our efforts to preserve our Muslim American community life for generations to come.
