Join WORDS-MAKE-PEOPLE on Sunday May 10, 2020 from 1-3 p.m. EST for a vibrant discussion on "Stress and Depression During Covid-19 - Discussion with Muslim Professionals". Special guest to include Muhammad Saahir - Ed.S, LMHC, Counselor in Bloomington, IN and Ameenah Muhammad MSW.
Sudden unexpected and uncontrollable changes in one's life can create anxieties and uncertainties -- for many this combination can be stressful, even mentally and spiritually depressing. How are Muslims to deal with these circumstances?
The loss of employment, social contact and the assurance of securing your next meal only add to the frustration. A big concern is the health and well-being of yourself and your family. Covid-19 is a sub-microscopic virus, essentially invisible yet quite scary. How are we to address this challenge while maintaining our mental, social and spiritual well-being?
As Believers we must patiently persevere through all difficulties. Allah says in Al-Qur'an chapter 2: verses 155-157, "Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives, and the fruits of your toil. But give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Those who say, when afflicted with calamity, 'To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.' They are those on whom descend blessings from their Lord, and mercy. They are the ones who receive guidance."
