Allah encourages us in the Qur'an, chapter 3: verse 139, “Do not give up and do not be downhearted. You shall be uppermost if you are believers.”
Despite the rise in what is popularly called "Islamophobia," Muslims in America today live relatively good lives that are free of the hardships that Muslims struggled through in the 20th-Century. Many Americans, including our own blood relatives, were not yet quite ready for the "mooz-lum" stuff. Nonetheless, we maintain our faith, our focus and dedication to our new way of life called "Islam."
Some Muslims lost jobs, marriages, even temporarily -- from months to years -- we lost communications with family and dear friends. But we were not to be deterred despite the struggles. Most of our Muslim children who were born into Islam have very little knowledge -- some have no idea -- of the struggles we endured being the first in our family, or the first in our neighborhoods to submit our lives totally to Allah and the purifying disciplines of the Qur'an and the life example of Prophet Muhammed (ppbuh).
Dissatisfaction brings about a change, and Lord have mercy - at the time we first heard any form of Islam we were some disatified folks who were willing to sacrifice our former lives and accept Islam as the new me.
