Imam Hassan Sharif was shot outside the Masjid Muhammad mosque in Newark during the time of Fajr (morning) prayer on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

The New York Times reported..."According to Wahy-ud Deen Shareef, the leader of the Council of Imams in New Jersey, Mr. (Hassan) Sharif, 52, was known for being a progressive leader who was deeply invested in his community and its well-being."
