From CBS NEWS: The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol held the third in a series of public hearings on Thursday with testimony from former Vice President Mike Pence's former counsel Greg Jacob and conservative jurist J. Michael Luttig. The hearing focused on tfg's campaign to pressure Pence to reject electoral votes. The committee has continued to lay out evidence showing tfg encouraged his supporters to descend on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, after peddling false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

The House on Wednesday voted nearly along party lines to bar the sale of semiautomatic weapons to people under the age of 21 and ban the sale of large-capacity magazines, acting as traumatized parents of victims and survivors of mass shootings made wrenching appeals for Congress to act on gun violence.

Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas. 

It's a federal holiday signed into law by President Biden in 2021.
