Show #22 7/6/2022 REPLAYED ON 12/28/2021My Guest Tonight Christine Cocchiola, She Is An LCSW is a tenured professor at a Connecticut community college teaching in the Pre-Social Work Studies Program for over 19 years. Christine began her career in social work by becoming a Certified Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Counselor for Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury at the age of 19 where she remains a volunteer. Her expertise is in the area of intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, and trauma along with child abuse and neglect and has developed various trainings on these topics, presenting regionally and nationally. Ms. Cocchiola is a 2022 candidate for a Doctorate in Social Work, attending New York University (NYU) where she is also an adjunct instructor; her Capstone Project and publications focused on Intimate Partner Violence, specifically on Coercive Control and the impact that this abuse has on adult and child victims. She has been on numerous podcasts educating on the topic of Coercive Control, Post Separation Abuse, The Trauma Bond, the role of the protective parent in supporting child victims of coercive control, and is actively involved in supporting legislation that will codify coercive control as part of domestic violence, creating a policy brief that may be used by sponsors of such bills. Most recently, Ms. Cocchiola has been appointed to the Board for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
