If Not You Who.org co-creators Debi Dutton and Elissa Sungar bring you Productive Play. On this segment we will have a conversation about an important character trait of being responsible. Responsibility is a learned trait and needs to be taught and reinforced but is often neglected at home and at school. Listen to Elissa and Debi share ways to model and teach responsible behavior to preschoolers. A study in 2000 found that most five-year-olds have watched between 4,000 and 5,000 hours of television or other media by the time they reach first grade. This is the number of hours it takes to get a college degree. These are hours that parents should use to help their children socialize with other children, explore enriching environments, and learn appropriate behaviors such as responsibility.
