And most business owners who have reached a certain level employ a person to shield them from general inquires which are not worthy of their time. The unflattering nickname for these people is a "gatekeeper". Most gatekeepers are very good at what they do and it can be a battle to get through their defenses. 1. Don't waste too much time on anybody who isn't the key decision maker 2. Be polite and do your best to make them like you 3. Send both the gatekeeper and the key decision maker (if you know who that is) a nice gift to get on their good side. 4. Listen more than you speak 5. Learn the gatekeeper's name 6. Be as specific as possible, get to the point, and have a clear purpose
7. Don't take "no" for an answer 8. Don't apologize for anything or show uncertainty or weakness 9. Call before or after office hours
