About the only singularity in masonry is the individual who brings perspective and judgement. I would be first to tell you truth is revealed by behaviour. What we do says more about our thinking than any words. Being prone to comparisions is unavoidable if the Craftsman is a dedicated/curious student. We hope he has begun to find his niche. Tolerance, respect, knowledge, these are universals that have grown and followed us over the centuries.  Accompanied by the sense that society is gradually and generationally in decline.  If it is any worth, the Egyptians left us notes saying they had those concerns 7,000 years ago. La meme chose. Some traits are part of the social fabric.  To the outside world, I might not feel so compelled to describe Masonry. Within our walls, I see not point trying to instill a sense of learning in men who are disinterested. It is afterall, a special opportunity.  Should a man pass our entrance, he may spend the rest of his days lingering around the door and never stepping through.  There is a large, cordial group with him most days.  To settle in to our apprenticeship, we need to get over the overwhelming confusion that faces each of us.  Some wise sorts 'help' their student by dismissing whatever displeases. Too hard. Too long. Too complicated. Attempts at dumbing down the workings of masonry are as effective as deriding higher learning in general.  To think such things is disengenuous.  Even the unprepared man, not sure of his direction or potential, is better off in a place where those with purpose are carrying on.
