Darned difficult to balance the concepts of masonry. Damned near impossible to balance them with first exposed. Masonry is best read with an enquiring mindset. If we trust masonry is a source of first priniciples, we go on to share the excitement of discovering capacities we had not yet experienced. Rarely does a young man have a sense of how to do it, but at a tender age he will begin to understand necessities and extravagances. Limitless erosion, falling into a life where the only intimacy is with a drug driven state of conclusion. Or driven to earn a reputation that exhalts his lineage.  The sages who influenced our design were aware what holds humanity together are commonalities at the heart of being human.  We find this when we are doing comparative readings. If we look for similiarities in scripture and philosophy, they are there, but that does not stop zealots pointing out the opposite. For men with low expectations, clustering together against a common foe may be the only affirmation they have. Hatred and fear.  Masonry isn't a thing as much as it is a concept.  Men who espouse those concepts are influential, wherever they be. LIve or dead, they are a countrepoint to some unpleasant versions of rule of law.  Gandhi brought a warring nation to its knees without raising a fist. Conscience is a nasty combatant for those unfamiliar with their own. If masonry were a large diamond, the facets would be stunning. We would give names to them and ascribe certain geometry to their relationships. It might be a symbol of all that is good. How would it feel to bring it out everytime we are together and never talk about it? Would we believe boredom wouldn't infect the crowd? Likely we would take it out but have no idea why.  Except there is that small gathering who are inspired by it. What do they know, that has escaped us? It's just an expensive stone.
