Galatians 3:18-29 - Galatians 5:1-11
FREEDOM AND THE LAW
Paul, though troubled about what he heard was going on in the Galatian churches, was not prepared to give up on the Galatians. When Paul wrote his letter to the Galatians, his circumstances, no doubt, prevented him from revisiting Galatia (see 4:20). Thus, many scholars believe that the letter was written during his ministry in Macedonia or Ephesus around AD 54 or 55. He wrote to them, confident in the Lord that they would accept his point of view. Paul insisted in his letter that no mark in the Galatians’ flesh could perfect what the Spirit had already done. Christ had freed them from their old lives of slavery. Circumcision would mean the surrender of that freedom. They did not need to become Jews in order to gain full standing as children of Abraham.
