Tonight's special guest is Feather Berkower from Colorado, a returning NAASCA family member and a 27-year veteran in child sexual abuse prevention. Using a community-based approach, she has trained over 100,000 school children, parents and professionals! Her highly-regarded workshop, Parenting Safe Children, empowers adults to keep children safe from sexual abuse. Summer is here, and there are extra concerns for our children. Feather says to parents, "As you finish enrolling your children in summer programs and gear up for their first day, there are a few conversations you might have with program directors, instructors, counselors, and your kids about body safety." She warns us, "The goal of any screening is to invite caregivers onto your prevention team. It's not an interrogation, but rather a conversation." Feather has a way of making difficult topics less scary, and consistently impresses audiences with her knowledge, commitment, and warmth. Parenting Safe Children helped to inspire "Off Limits," a parenting book that will change the way you think about keeping kids safe. "Off Limits" presents easy-to-follow guidelines for making children, homes, and communities off limits to child sexual abusers.
