Tonight's special guest is Grace Nava from Pennsylvania, author of a new prevention book for young children, "Little Peach Pit." Grace is a sociologist, an interfaith minister, an associate professor of social studies, and a doctoral student pursuing a degree in education and global training and development. During a K-3 teaching internship Grace realized how much she enjoyed writing materials for children. Since then she has written several children's books. In a world filled with negative priming and put-downs, "Little Peach Pit" emphasizes the value of the individual, and that self-esteem comes about from persevering and doing the right thing. Using the peculiar characteristics of a peach pit, the book illustrates that differences make the individual, and ought to be respected. Little Peach Pit perseveres through bullying, hardships, and rejection, to become--finally--what it was meant to be with a little help from a Higher Power. The publisher is offering a free video game online that reinforces the message of growth and perseverance. In addition three different lesson plans are available free too, which include: 1) How to deal with bullying, 2) Growth, physical and of character, and 3) An ecumenical view of prayer. The book is available in Kindle and as a paperback.
