Tonight's special guest is Jayneen Sanders (aka Jay Dale) from Melbourne, Australia, an author and advocate for sexual abuse prevention education at UpLoad Publishing. Jayneen is an experienced primary school teacher and a successful children's book author. She is also the mother of three teenage girls and has been a primary school councilor for over seven years. Her time spent in primary schools inspired her to ask: "What are we doing in schools to protect our children from sexual interference?" She realized very little was actually being done and decided to write a book to help parents, careers and teachers to broach the subject of self-protection and to encourage children to speak up. Her accomplishments as a children’s book author include writing over 80 titles for Engage Literacy. Jayneen is an advocate for sexual abuse prevention education and is the author of the children’s picture book on this topic: "Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept" (www.somesecrets.info). The beautifully illustrated book sensitively broaches the subject of keeping our children safe from sexual interference. It's meant to be used as a tool to help broach the subject with children in a non-threatening way. Jayneen notes, "As the mother of three young children, I knew at some stage in their young lives I would not be there to protect them. With the talk of the ‘first sleep-over’, I realized I needed to broach the delicate subject of how they could protect themselves from unwanted interference. I challenged myself to write this book so parents, careers and educators had a tool (one I did not have) to open up the discussion on self-protection."
