Tonight's special guest is Nanaymie Kasmira Godfrey, MS, LMHC, from Washington State, a survivor of childhood trauma who describes herself as a Social Interaction Consultant. Her personal and professional journey have culminated in her being disenchanted by her profession because of its focus on individual pathology as the seed for many of society's problems. She says, "At the foundation of my work lies the intersection of two theoretical approaches; Critical and Positioning theories. I have come to believe that our society is strongly rooted in the language of capital and revenue enhancement to the detriment of its own people. In my decade of work with litigants, I have seen "professionals" and workers of all types choose to keep their positions secure rather than do what is right for the benefit of the people they are supposed to serve. Our culture is in a mess not from the ground up, but from the top down!" Nanaymie has used the strategies and work of Positioning Theory to successfully help "strategically position" litigants, mandated clients, and parents when faced with judgment and intervention by social institutions in a place to deprive them of their civil liberties and basic human rights. She explains, "My approach combines the tenets of several psycho-therapeutic techniques." She says she equalizes the playing field for the disadvantaged by acknowledging and responding proactively to a system that creates advantage for people of wealth and privilege who erroneously act on personal biases and prejudices of 'others'.
