Tonight's special guest is Nick Thorsen from Los Angeles, a child abuse survivor who grew up in a home fill with domestic violence. It was completely dominated by his bi-polar controlling mother. "I remember as a young child feeling loved by my mother. She was a sweet woman who I knew loved me. But for some reason, she was unable to control her mental obsessions and pill abuse. She never tried." Nick's here representing the Childhood Domestic Violence Association (CDV) as an active member of this unique organization that's exclusively devoted to helping children currently growing up with domestic violence, as well as many adults who grew up living with it. CDV builds universal awareness and creating and deploying practical, truly scalable resources accessible with few barriers to all who are in need. It works to help anyone who grows up living with domestic violence reach their full potential. Growing up, Nick's deeply disturbing family experience led him to the organization, "It took me a long time to realize that people who love each other aren't supposed to treat each other like this. I really thought this was normal." He learned otherwise. "I wanted a different life so badly I could taste it. I wanted to live in peace and I wanted to make a positive impact in the world." Nick goes on, "Because I've seen the darkest of days and suffered greatly over a long period of time, I've always felt like I have nothing else to lose. I go for it, no matter what IT is." His determination's worked out. Over the past 5 years, with help from leading expert, CDV has developed several groundbreaking tools and resources that have never existed before to help as many children currently growing up with domestic violence and as many adults who grew up living with it as possible.
