Tonight's special guest is Roy Huff from Honolulu, Hawaii, a child abuse survivor and author of a soon-to-be released book 'Think Smart Not Hard'. Roy overcame the hardship of a family plagued by severe poverty and mental illness, and he was abused physically. "There were several people involved," Roy says, "but what I'm willing to share relates to physical assault as a six year old from my mother's boyfriend after my parents separated." He goes on, "On one occasion in particular, he was attacking my mother, and I blocked him to keep him from punching her in the face. He proceeded to pick me up and throw me against the wall. I collided with the wall and collapsed onto the floor. Eventually the abuse escalated, and I called the police. After that he left, for fear I would call the police again." Now Roy's a research scientist, author, and teacher. After graduating high school as Valedictorian, he moved to Hawaii at the age of seventeen with only $100 in his pocket to start a new life. "In my book, I touch on abuse, but primarily what I know about my father's abuse, which was sexual." He concludes, "I give strategies to deal with pain and abuse inflicting by others." We're delighted to help Roy launch his new book, 'Think Smart Not Hard," and welcome him to the NAASCA family!
