Tonight's special guests are Isabel Morales and Viviana Galvis from Bogotá, Colombia. Isabel, 35 years old, suffered abuse by person very close to her starting when she was 4, and this abuse continued for years. She began therapy in her teens and continues in her path of recovery today, learning to live with the lifetime affects of the abuse including borderline disorder and depression. Viviana is an activist and filmmaker currently living in Texas. Both women are part of the project team 'Say It Out Loud,' an organization formed by filmmakers and other professionals seeking to raise awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse through a series of short educational videos teaching children what to do in different risk situations. Vivian describes a national crisis of abuse happening in Columbia including the recent arrest of a rapist who abused over 500 children and one of the most infamous serial killers, Luis Alfredo Garavito, who raped and murdered over 140 children. Vivian states, “Many people around me have suffered this trauma for generations.” She continues, “This is a problem that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately since the justice system is so weak in our country a lot of abusers go unnoticed or get released from prison 10 or 15 years later.” There is currently a GoFundMe account for contributions to the 'Say It Out Loud' project and a Youtube video with more information.
