Tonight's special guest is Krystal Johnson from Moore, Oklahoma, a youth pastor's wife and author who writes with a focus to help children who have been sexually traumatized feel safe physically, mentally, and emotionally to share their story with a trusted parent or adult. Although Krystal is not a survivor of childhood abuse, she has helped kids who have been sexually traumatized start their recovery process, has family members who have experienced childhood sexual trauma, and as a college student she suffered rape at the hands of 2 classmates. Krystal describes how those experiences have deeply motivated her, “Just watching them go through their journey stumbling along and not getting the help that they need has made me want to help children as early and as soon as I can.” Krystal has now completed a children's book soon to be released to the public titled "My Mila and Me -- Healing Childhood Trauma One Kid, One Family, At A Time" with the intent to help both sexually abused children and their parents. Krystal elaborates, "Often we as parents get so caught up in life and relationships that we don't see what's going on right in front of our faces.” She goes on, “It breaks my heart to know that children are scared, terrified even, to speak up .. trying to get past their trauma, on their own.” Krystal hopes the book will, “help to provide that safe place for children to tell their story.”
