Tonight's special guest is Christina Baird from Vacaville, California, a survivor of child sexual abuse, an activist, and an author. In her early childhood, Christina was raised by a physically abusive mother who was addicted to heroin and gave her up to foster care before she was 14 years old. In her early teens, she experienced homelessness and then was emancipated at age 16. Christina feels some of the most significant issues in her recovery from the abuse have been working through abandonment and trust issues, the theme of boundaries, and saying "no" without stressing about the consequences. Christina believes in service through accountability in her communities. Today she works with local non-profits, organizations, religious affiliations and legislation to deter predators from harming today's youth. Christina has been a facilitator for the community education and sexual abuse prevention program, Darkness to Light Stewards of Children Training, and was a contributing writer for the book Trigger Points: Abuse Survivors Experiences of Parenting about survivors breaking the generational cycle of child abuse. She was the recipient of the Congressman John Garamendi's 2016 Women of the Year award for improving the quality of life in her community through her work and volunteerism. Her current work includes running her public relations and internet marketing business, 'Little Wing Connections' and writing for multiple blogs. She is also the author of a memoir, 'How Far Will I Run,' with the message of how she has made a conscious choice to be an asset to society despite her childhood traumas.
