Tonight's special guest is Amber Hubenschmidt from Leonardtown, Maryland, a 19-year-old survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) who's sharing her story with us for the first time. When Amber was 8 years old her parents were going through a divorce, and it was during this time that a boyfriend of her mother's began sexually assaulting her. Amber remembers him coming into her bedroom at night repeatedly for about a month, raping her at gunpoint and threatening to kill her and her family unless she promised not to tell anyone. As happens in so many cases of childhood sexual abuse, Amber suffering in silence and with PTSD for ten years before, as a senior year in high school, she was able to speak up about what happened. Unfortunately, Amber did not receive justice after reporting the abuse. She learned this was common for cases like hers. “This fueled a fire in me to become an activist, she says. "I want to help others in similar situations to not feel so alone.” Amber continues, "Now, at 19 years old, I have dedicated my college career to spreading awareness about PTSD from sexual abuse and [teach others] how to fight the rape culture we live in today." We invite our listeners to call in to participate, whether this is your first time listening or you have been with us for years. Give your support and share your healing and recovery with our newest NAASCA family member, Amber."
