Tonight's special guest is Julie Federico, a special guest returning from Colorado, author of the children's books 'Some Parts Are Not For Sharing' and the more recently published 'Anger is OKAY Violence is NOT' (please see the web site at www.JulieFederico.com). A middle school counselor since 1993, Julie holds a bachelors degree in social work and a masters degree in counseling from Indiana University. She is also a certified, level III alcohol counselor in the state of Colorado. She knows first hand the ramifications of childhood abuse. "Domestic Violence is a sibling to child abuse and I talk about how child abuse grooms individuals to accept domestic violence," Julie says. "Almost 9 million children a year witness domestic violence. I have a lot of work to do." In her first book, children travel with a pair of friendly fish as they learn about what parts of our bodies we share with others, and learn what the boundaries of appropriate touching are in a very non-threatening way. Julie knows there many misconceptions and misunderstandings about the issues of child abuse that need to be dispelled through honest and frank conversations with children, adolescents and adults. Her second book is "Anger is OKAY, Violence is NOT." Children enjoy learning important information from a pair of fish. Parents marvel at the simple straightforward language and use of sea creatures that create this message all children must hear.
