Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now with Denise Thomson, Certified Health and Wellness Coach, nurse, fitness trainer, educator, speaker and author.
With last weeks triple digit heat wave, we know that summer is here. Last week I talked about signs and symptoms of a Heat Stroke and ways to prevent it. I can only tell you that I headed my own advice while I was driving up to the mountain and went from starting temperatur of 76 degrees F through areas of 94, 102, 104, 109 and at my destination it was 86. That felt so good. I am blessed to have A/C in my car so I staid comfortable while driving, though the air I breathed in started getting a bit heavy in the super hot areas.
Tips for a safe summer:
Always wear sunblock, UVA UVB skin cancer prevention
Stay in the shade
Wear a hat
Wear sunglasses
Hydrate regularly, water is the best source, caffeine dehydrates as does alcohol
When working outside, (preferably early morning and later evening) take regular breaks ( ex.: daytime weeding last weekend in warm weather)
Take your walks early in the morning or when it gets cooler in the evening
During hot weather stay inside or go to places that are cooled for the public.
To stay comfortable set your A/C to 78 degrees
