Definition of Flatus, Flatulation, Fart: Flatus, Fart, Wind, Gas.Whatever you call it, everyone does it. It's a natural part of life. Don't hold back. Here, Clare Collins, Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Newcastle shares some facts about flatus (and what happens when you try to hold on) in a piece first pulsihed in The Conversation (Australian edition) entitled "What Happens When You Hold in a Fart".

How much gas is normal? Research determined that after they tested 10 volunteers who participated in the study. They all had a rectal catheter inserted, so the gas production could get measured, tested, over 24 hour period. Men and women produced about the same amount.

1 cup (70 oz) of cooked legumes (beans, chickpeas or lentils) - lowered blood pressure, blood sugars A1c, cholesterol.
