Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now. Today is my Bonus Mom's 66th anniversary to my Dad, who passed 10 years ago. I just called her and wished her a happy anniversary, since we chatted a few days earlier and she mentioned she wanted to do something to remember him and honor him. (flowers vs ph call)

So, what does any of this have to do with DNA? I am Denise Thomson and I will share with you that DNA has little to do with who we become, how we act and react, though the surroundings have a major influence on us, especially the 5 people we spend the most time with each and every day.

When I was 10 months old, my biological mom, passed away suddenly. Stayed with Grandma until he married when I was 2 yrs old. Heidi and Dad had 4 more children, oldest boy taken in with me.

Today, Heidi and I reminisced about my life with her, the connection to her family and how life is now for us. Did something happen to us or for us?

I can honestly say that Heidi's family had more of an impact on my life than my Dad's and my biological mom's family input, as there was little and I am finally getting to know some of my relatives from birth mom's side; whereas I have known my bonus mom's family since I can remember.

Great relationship with Dad's mother

Not much of a relationship with biological mom's parents and brother (half-brother, as I found out about 3 years ago).

Excellent relationship with Heidi's mom and Dad, her siblings and their children.

Still today, I am closer to all my cousins from Heidi's side of the family, than my DNA connected cousins from Dad's family. Things I've done reflect more Heidi's side than Dad's side, caring for others, taking them in.

DNA has some value, yet surroundings are more influential and leave a deeper footprint in our lives.
