Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now. In three days is Father's Day and also my husband's and my 41st anniversary. So much to be grateful for.

Let's focus on Father's Day. How will you celebrate it? Is your Father still alive? If not, what memories are going through your mind? What does your heart say?

I am Denise Thomson, with lots of experience with Fathers, Dads, men who took on the role of caring for children, and I also have plenty of experience with mindset on who is a Father, what makes this man a Father, etc.

As a nurse I had many Father's in my care, they don't have to be biological. It's an emotional connection to a man who has great influence on you through caring, sharing, playing, activities, educating, setting an example, etc.

As a teacher I talked to Fathers of my students.

No matter what I did or do, I usually connect with people older than the ones I am working with as that helps find some common grounds, some traditions, ways of thinking, habits, etc.

How will you celebrate this weekend? Making a card, a project, going out to lunch, a park, a hike, watching a movie, having a BBQ, playing games, etc.

Will all the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren be gathering and singing "Happy Father's Day to You" in the tune of Happy Birthday?

Will there be story telling? Who tells?

Will there be sad memories or are all of them happy ones? How can we learn from the past and make a better future for ourselves?

Celebrating does not mean spending money, but doing things together, keeping healthy, hydrated, engage in movement, spending quality time over quantity time, which in many ways means much more to the Father(s) as store bought things.

Interaction, conversations, feeling loved and appreciated helps keeping your Father healthy longer.
