Recovering from the Impacts of Childhood Parental Alienation

    in Health

In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom talks with Lisa Goodpaster, author, childhood trauma educator and founder of the Stephood Project. A child of divorce, she broke her neck, and suffered for years with over 22 physical symptoms and intense chronic pain. She shares her experience of feeling alienated from both her mother and father by her stepmother, and the impact it had on her childhood. She explains that by reading Back in Control, going through the Hoffman process and working with somatic therapist Kendra Bloom, she discovered the roots of her suffering in her childhood alienation and how to use that awareness to heal.
Lisa Goodpaster is the founder of the Stephood Project, a childhood trauma educator and the author of Alienated: When Parents Won’t Parent. She was alienated from both her mother and father by her stepmother. Lisa’s ability to connect and inspire while creating a safe space for all who are struggling to understand children who have been alienated is unmatched. Lisa is also a motivational speaker helping all families and professionals understand the complex issues that arise in all families. Her ability to connect and help others understand the dangers of not co-parenting and the connection to parental alienation is creating a positive movement forward to help create change while clearing the path for other survivors to come forward. Heal From Trauma Through Movement Therapy with Movement Therapist Erica Hornthal

    in Health

Today's special guest, Erica Hornthal, is a board certified dance/movement therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor based in Chicago. Erica is also author of  Body Aware, a book devoted to movement, and Founder of Chicago Dance Therapy where she assists clients in moving their bodies to move their minds.
When she found herself in the thick of crisis counseling after the horrific July 4th, 2022 shooting at the parade in downtown Highland Park, IL, it became clear to her that people seeking emotional support, as well as the volunteers, had one thing in common that nobody was addressing- their nervous systems were in utter distress.
As a movement therapist, this realization was nothing new. However, in this moment, she found herself wishing she had a body-based emotional first-aid kit to guide these survivors out of their heads and back into their bodies and the idea for The Movement Therapy Deck was born.
Now, her 52 Movement Therapy cards with embodied practices to relieve stress/anxiety, heal from trauma and find emotional balance are available to the public via Target, Amazon and her website. They offer perfect prompts to acknowledge, move through and release emotions and are accessible to everyone no matter age or physical ability.

Be Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. Creating health should be your priority.

    in Health

Creating Health should be your priority everyday
There is a reason Healthy is first in the saying, Be Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. Without health your capacity to create wealth and attain wisdom is greatly diminished. In the fast paced society that we live in health for the most part has been put on the back burner. We see non stop commercials and social media influencers telling us what and how we should be eating, but almost all of them are not sustainable.
13 cancers are now directly linked to obesity. Auto immune diseases are on a rapid high from high stress and poor gut health.  All of these leave us in a health bankrupt society where parents are outliving their children! It is time that we take our health seriously and reclaim our lives. To achieve this we must create daily habits to replace all the bad ones we have been hoarding as coping mechanisms. Yeah, yeah ,yeah you know but that is not easy.
Stay tuned and listen in to Creating Health and I will be sharing with you the small steps that lead to big change. Every week I will be talking with experts across many fields to help provide steps that are necessary for you to create health and wealth... wisdom comes from the process.
Let's not reduce health to food and exercise. True health is physical, mental, emotional and financial.  Get ready to embrace all that life is eagerly waiting to give to you.
Creating Health will be on Friday mornings starting at 9am at https://www.kphred.com
