Tonight's special guest is Dwight Hurych from Greensboro, North Carolina, author of the new book, 'Who Else Can Love You?'. Dwight's primary abuse was the emotional neglect inflicted upon him by his mother, his custodial parent. Since infancy, he received no affection, appreciation or unconditional love from his mother, and hardly any recognition. This continued until after he graduated from high school. Trying to connect with his mother only left him feeling utterly frustrated by her indifference and tremendously distraught from her complete lack of compassion. He reports that after a lifetime of struggling with relationships and two failed marriages, he sought therapy and support, so he didn't really 'get away' from the effects of the emotional neglect ingrained in his body until later in life. In relationships Dwight felt like a misunderstood misfit, often exhibiting needy behavior because he was so desperate for attention. Dwight explains he started therapy and Al-Anon about two decades ago. Later, he learned about inner child work and recovery from C-PTSD. Today, he continues inner child therapy for greater embracing of all his inner parts, living more authentically and wholeheartedly than ever before. He recently published a book of poetic affirmations of self-love from the perspective of his delighted inner child. The book is called, 'Who Else Can Love You?' and is suitable for any child, inner or outer. The purpose of this particular show is for me and my guests to discuss the value of inner child therapy in order to give adult survivors tools and options for their own therapeutic healing journey.
