Tonight's special guest is Cathlene Miner from St. Augustine, Florida, whose mother had her at 15. They lived across the street from her grandparents. "Mom grew up in a very abusive home, her father would abuse my grandmother and all of the children." She says, "For my grandmother it lasted till she passed away from a brain injury." Cathlene explains, "From being exposed to domestic abuse as a third-party since a very young age I always wondered why people stay and why abusers do what they do. After raising four children I went on to be certified as a domestic violence advocate and started my own nonprofit ('Hopeful Handbags')." I started my own nonprofit 'Hopeful Handbags' to raise hope, help and support to those getting back on their feet from domestic abuse, spreading prevention and awareness, opening the very important conversation so that those still in abusive situations feel safe and confident to reach out for help. We do this by starting with once-loved handbags filled necessities and donating them to those getting back on their feet. That just opens the conversation." According to Cathlene, "A key goal is educating and getting communities involved in domestic abuse awareness and what to look for. 'Hopeful Handbags' is active in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Caribbean, Uganda and South Africa. There have been numerous magazine articles and consistent social media content daily since 2017."
