Tonight's special guest is Angela Turpin from Fresno, California, a child abuse survivor, coach and author. She was abused emotionally, mentally, physically, and sexually, emotional and mentally by her mother. "My mom married the man that was abusing me sexually which started was around 3 years old," Angela says. "The sexual and physical abuse stopped around 7 or 8 years old. I endured mental and emotional abuse until I was 18." After struggling in her personal life and not knowing why, Angela was raped for a second time at 27, and she began to have flashbacks of the sexual abuse. Now she's a 'Breakthrough Coach', blogger and author. "Truth is," she explains, "I didn't really understand any of it was abuse until I was much older. When I looked back on it, when I had gotten older, I just thought it was normal that people grew up with their mothers like that. When I was 27 and had flashbacks of the sexual abuse, I couldn't remember the details. [But] I did remember the physical abuse." Recovery means everything to her. "I am very grateful for my ability to overcome things. I am at peace with my abuser, my past, and myself. That's something I never thought I was going to find." Angela advises that survivors should always hold onto their truth. "People will question it and make you question it. That's okay. That's part of the process. Hold onto your truth despite what everyone tells you and keep moving forward. Don't be afraid to leave behind what doesn't serve you." Angela empowers women to strive for their best lives no matter what they have been through.
