Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 2730

Tonight's special guest is Brian Morrison from Scotland, UK, whose child abuse began at home. His mother struggled with mental problems and his father disappeared. He spent the bulk of his childhood in state-run care (similar to the US foster system) and he actually thinks of this time as a good experience. But he was dismissed from care as he was becoming 16, later finding out that kids who were still in the system at 16 became wards of the state. Brian found he was wasn't able to be comfortable at home so he took off to London. He fell in with less than upscale 'friends' and companions. Brian says, "Coming from a background of being brought up children's homes as a child, abuse, mental health, homelessness and 20 years of daily drinking / alcohol addiction till being given approximately 6 months to live in March 2005 due to my alcohol dependency, before entering alcohol treatment on 30th June 2005." He goes on, "Having now been alcohol free since 30th June 2005 (15+ years) I have been helping as many people as possible, by mentoring those struggling with alcohol or new to recovery PLUS sharing my life story on Stages, TV and Radio to show there is a light at the end of the very dark tunnel of alcohol addiction." Brian may also write his own book "THE LIFE OF BRIAN" to share his story in the hope of it helping others. In any case he's staying busy. "I have also set up a social enterprise (community interest company) recently, by the name of BizSocial Networking, which aims to support those in recovery following struggles with alcohol addiction." Brian tell us he's the Founder of M.A.S.C.A. (Male Adult Survivors of Child Abuse), a new charity being set up in Scotland.
