Tonight's special guest is Dominic Prophete, JD, from Newark, New Jersey, Chief Executive Officer of Wynona's House Child Advocacy Center in Essex County. Donna Brown, his Administrative Assistant, may also appear. The mission is to promote justice, hope and healing for child victims of abuse and neglect throughout Essex County by coordinating investigation, prosecution, treatment, prevention, and supportive services utilizing the “child-centered” multi-disciplinary team approach. The vision of Wynona's House is to create a community where children are safe, families, are strong, and victims become children again. Fifteen years ago, Wynona's House was founded in Newark, New Jersey as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping children who have been abused or neglected. Wynona's House revolutionized the process endured by children and families of Essex County coping with the aftermath of abuse and neglect. We are a collaboration of more than 70 multi-disciplinary advocates helping the children of Essex County who have been abused or neglected. Wynona's House coordinates a cross-systems collaboration that leverages both public and private resources to improve outcomes addressing the problem of child abuse, neglect and maltreatment within the 22 municipalities of Essex County. In a typical year, Wynona's House serves approximately 950 child victims of abuse or neglect from the 21 municipalities of Essex County and their non-offending caregivers/families. It's a best-practice model of public/private collaboration of multi-disciplinary teams including investigators, prosecutors, medical and mental health professionals, social workers and child/family advocates working together.
