Tonight's special guest is Maedene Elizabeth Kaminsky from Oxnard, California, a survivor of child abuse and new NAASCA member. She's a wife, homemaker and a mom of two children, a 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son with Downs Syndrome" I've been in recovery for mental health and addiction issues since 2005, but I struggled on and off for most of those years to stay clean and gain some continuous clean time," she says. "I've found in my recovery that I struggled with childhood trauma, of losing my father at the age of 9. I was then abused by a relative and respected adult in my life, at the age of 12." She goes on to explain, "From that point on I lived in survival mode, until I found escape in drugs. I found the 12 Step Program in recovery." Maedene began to work on herself to heal of her mental health and from addiction issues. "I've come a long way in my recovery, learning to re-parent myself, and my own children in healthier ways. I work a program of recovery, I go to mental health groups, and I volunteer with the community when I'm able to." We know how important this is. "I also have a strong faith in God, and Jesus Christ and I try to live my life as best as I can, according to His will and by following a program of recovery!"
