This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. We continue our discussion of Veterans Healing Veterans (VHV) @ the Veterans Transition Center in Monterey county and in CA State Prisons. We are joined by the founder, participants and facilitators. 2. Deodoceo Habi, veteran, joins us to talk about his healing journey. 3. David Massey, the first African American Filmmaker ever Oscar-Nominated for ?Best Live Action Short Film? (for 1992's ?Last Breeze of Summer? which he Produced,) will present his newest Short Film Project: ?Passage.? The film presents a West African culture that faces an unprecedented challenge in the year 1600. Massey, who both Directed and served as a Producer on the new film, will present ?Passage? at a special Oscar-contention screening on Thursday, December 9th, at 7PM at the George Lucas Theater, located within the historic 32TEN Studios in San Rafael, CA. During the evening's event, Massey will also present his 1992 Oscar-nominated film ?Last Breeze of Summer.?
