    in Writing

Join host Tom Riddell and co-host Teri Brown as they welcome author Maggie Fuller to The Writers Lounge. Sit back and relax as Maggie discusses what it's like to be a writer and she will also talk to us about her book: Saving the Ghost
Ellen McInnis was the victim of rape by her father when she was a child. At 17 years of age, she moved on in her life, putting distance between her and her abusive parents but she decided not to tell anyone except for her best friend and her husband, regarding the horrors that she suffered as a child. She was able to maintain a successful career and she also enjoyed good relationships with friends and others. But when her father died, she is forced back into the family fold and the traumatic memories of her childhood are brought back to the surface. This proves to be too much for Ellen, and it puts her on the path to total and complete destruction. Out of desperation, she confides in her elderly aunt Mercy, who was there for her as a child. She hopes that Mercy will heal her emotional wounds, but she soon finds out that Mercy is keeping horrible secrets of her own. When Ellen learns of what Mercy kept secret and has lived with all through the years, she is even more devastated, and her world continues to crumble all around her. She learns that her family has lived an unimaginable lie and now, Ellen wonders how she can survive it all.

A conversation with Mama Azia transformative power of the performing arts.

    in Performing Arts

The Capital Region Creative Corps is launching a program called "Tactical Urbanism Art in Placemaking." The Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum will focus on social justice and community engagement with cross-sector partners, the Melanin Day School Academy. The program has two main objectives: first, to develop an economic and workforce development program, and second, to demonstrate the crucial role artists from various disciplines can play in addressing our most pressing community issues.
Mama Azia, a fervent advocate for cultural expression through dance, embarks on a transformative journey within the African Diaspora. Through her rhythmic performances, Mama Azia can transcend borders and showcase the resilience of a people shaped by their history. By stepping into the realm of social justice, she uses movement as a powerful language to narrate stories of liberation, unity, and the vibrant African experience. In her dance classes, Mama Azia creates a sacred space for individuals of all ages to connect with their roots and find solace through rhythmic expression. Community performances turn her team into storytellers, conveying tales of resilience and triumph, with their bodies becoming vessels of history.
Mama Azia mentors a youth performance team to become cultural ambassadors through field trips and exchanges.
Mama Azia and her community use performing arts to educate, raise awareness, and heal from injustices. Their collective resilience is a testament to their shared journey toward positive change.

But I Digretch: Quirky Short Stories with Gretchen Astro Turner

But I Digretch: Quirky Short Stories with Gretchen Astro Turner
Whimsical and zany but edged with darkness, evocatively lyrical with goosebump-eliciting endings, Gretchen Astro Turner's 13 short stories in But I Digretch are for the romantic in all of us-but also the cynic. This fiction collection is for the surrealist and the dreamer. It's for those who live by carpe diem or struggle to find their raison d'etre. ...those who love an addict or may be addicts themselves. ...members of the LGBTQ+ community. ...readers who are into vampire lore as well as those who know life may best be understood via metaphor and symbolism.
A logophile and a bibliophile with a Master of Arts in the Teaching of English Language Arts from Columbia University, Turner has written a playful road map through storytelling and language.

    Diane Jones

    in Books

Diane was born with dyslexia, a learning disability that affected her ability to read and spell and impacted hand-eye coordination, making many sports out of her reach. She has a profound reverence for and connection to the natural world. She loves all creatures, but horses stole her heart when she was young. Circumstances did not allow Diane to own a horse growing up, but that did not stop her from searching for the "perfect" equine companion.
Diane dreamed of owning a horse someday. As it often does, life got in the way of making that dream come true until Rudy came along. At 50, she bought a down-on-his-luck chestnut Thoroughbred for 1 dollar. The trajectory of her life changed with that one choice.
Diane is the author of the award-winning Rudy the Rudster children's book series. She is passionate about creating opportunities to connect with children to normalize their feelings and make them feel less alone. She is equally interested in educating people, particularly children, about horses.

About Art

As Sondheim wrote, "Art isn't easy," but listening to people across the globe talk about it is! Our selection of shows that fall under the art umbrella is unparalleled, because we've got the world's most beloved authors, most talked-about actors and truly groundbreaking artists discussing their work, their influences and the creative process. On any given day, join in conversation with bestselling novelists, with museum curators on major fine art exhibits, with directors and writers whose films are the talk of Sundance or Cannes, with newsmakers whose latest works are changing the face of photography, mixed media or interior design. Spoken word is also voiced here, and other forms of poetry, as are journaling, crafts and more. Yes, BlogTalkRadio is bursting with self-expression; so if you've got a creative passion you'd like to share with the world, why not host your own show? We'll have you know, that part is easy.
